How to get an epic confetti photo

It’s no surprise that I LOVE a confetti photo, it is often one of my favourite parts of the day! Having photographed hundreds of weddings I have some handy tips to help you get the best out of your confetti photo.

How much confetti is too much confetti?

The limit does not exsist! The more confetti the better in my eyes.

When should we do our confetti throw?

There is no right or wrong answer, traditionally confetti happens straight after the ceremony when couples are leaving the venue/ church. This is a great time to throw confetti so your guests can cheer and greet you with a shower of colour in your newly wed bubble. However some churches and venues do not allow confetti on their grounds, if this is the case there are some other options. You could opt for handing out bubbles or model aeroplanes (see image below) that don’t leave any trace on the grounds or why not purchase some confetti canons and have them set off by a member of your wedding party during your first dance. It adds an extra bit of magic to get your party started. It’s always worth asking your photographer for where/when they think would look best for your confetti shot. For something a little different you could even throw your confetti at sunset to create a beautiful backdrop!

Who supplies the confetti?

In my experience very few guests bring along their own confetti so it is always worth buying your own if you are wanting a confetti photo. With this being said one of the best tips I can give for an amazing confetti shot is buy way more than you think you do. You want everyone to have a big handful to give a real burst of colour/ texture.

What type of confetti is best?

One of the best things about confetti now is there are so many types so you can pick something that perfectly fits your day and theme. So many companies now provide amazing colourful biodegradable tissue confetti (perfect if you want a real burst of colour). Petals can be mixed for a classic/ rustic look and are available in so many colours. Alternatively you could make your own confetti from dried petals, leaves, paper by collecting and cutting out shapes.

How can we make our confetti photo epic?

  1. Lots of confetti (always buy more than you think you need)

  2. Have fun with it, line your guests up or have them gather around you

  3. Hold your head up and smile! Don’t be tempted to cover your face or put your head down, embrace the shower.
